The clutch pressure plate is a spring-loaded device whose main function is to press or release the clutch disc. Depressing the clutch pedal retracts the pressure plate, disengaging the clutch disc from the flywheel and interrupting power transmission.

The linkage or actuator system connects the clutch pedal to the clutch assembly. In a mechanical linkage system, a series of rods and cables convert the motion of the clutch pedal into the movement of the release bearing. In a hydraulic system, depressing the clutch pedal moves hydraulic fluid from the master cylinder to the slave cylinder, which then moves the release bearing. The specific type of linkage or actuator system can vary greatly among different brands and models of trucks.
These components work together in a finely-tuned balance to control the transmission of power from the engine to the gearbox.
